Always! The Tabernacle Rescue Squad is always looking for new members and we accept applications 24/7 365 days a year.

Currently all of our members are volunteer and receive no hourly or weekly paycheck.

It is dependent upon the amount of time you are able to give and your membership classification. In addition to our basic duty shift requirements for EMT’s in which you staff and ambulance, there is the training requirements. All our members are volunteers and have full-time jobs, families, and other such responsibilities. It can be done and it is very rewarding.

Absolutely. Most of our members come to us with no training or experience. We will provide all get you all of the training you need. Also once you complete a CPR course and review of our equipment & policies you will be allowed to start riding the ambulance as an observer member.

This is a personal decision but you are welcome to join our organization and begin to ride the ambulance as this is the only true way to know if this is something you would enjoy or not.

YES if you are interested in helping the community but you do not want to be an EMT you can still join as a special operations member. These members provide a variety of other services that are essential to the operations of our organization.

In order to begin volunteering at the Rescue Squad, you need to be at least 15. If you are between 15 and 17 years old, you are considered a Cadet Member. Requirements for Cadet Members are somewhat different than for someone who joins at 18, but you will be able to progress through EMT class (if you may wish to participate in the Rescue track) before turning 18.

Yes we accept members between the ages of 15 – 17 years old. As a cadet member (16-17) you will be allowed with parental permission to serve on a scheduled duty crew, respond to emergency calls and participate in training and other various squad actives.

No. We have no residency requirements. However, you should consider that many of the activities you must attend are at our Station in Tabernacle or within Burlington County. Our station however, does provide provide many amenities such as a Lounge, Kitchen, Bunkrooms & more which you will have access to while on duty or while spending time at the station.

A successful student makes a successful EMT. As such, we have in place regulations, and follow state law, to ensure cadet members do not allow their education to suffer. One example is our restrictions on time cadet members are allowed to be at the station and/or responding to calls. We are more than happy to review these guidelines with parents during the membership application process and answer any questions you may have.

EMT training in the state of New Jersey is currently about 190 hours (as of 2021). This training typically takes place on varying days and depending upon the course chosen could be taught during the daytime or night time. Some courses are now being taught in a hybrid model which reduces the amount in “In Class” time spent at a training facility. This training is offered free of charge to anyone who wishes to become and EMT and provides 2 years of active service to TRS.

Currently the cost of a Basic EMT course is around $1300 +- which Tabernacle Rescue Squad will pay for you to attend.  However, you will be required to complete EMT school and provide 1 year of active service to the squad. If you are not able to meet these requirements you will be required to reimbursed the squad the cost of the course based on the amount of service provide and time served with TRS.

This depends upon your membership classification. Active members are required to server 48 hours of duty per month of which 12 of those hours must be completed on a weekend. Associate members are required to server 24 hours of duty per month of which 12 of those hours must be completed on a weekend. Special Operations & Cadet Members have no duty hour requirements. We are all volunteer and understand scheduling so we will work with you to get these duty hours on a schedule that fits your availability.

This depends on what state you are certified in if New Jersey is willing to accept that certification. We will however, work with you to gather this information an determine what if any training would be required to get you reciprocity in the state of New Jersey.

Any Licensed Physician, Physician assistant, Registered nurse or Advanced practice nurse may obtain EMT-Basic certification by complying with the requirements set forth at N.J.A.C. 8:40A-7.3(a) 1ii, iii and iv which will required the applicant to apply for abbreviated certification process. In most cases NJ OEMS will only required you to challenge the New Jersey EMT test or also attend the states EMT refresher training. We will be here to help you through the entire process.

NO Since the primary mission of the Tabernacle Rescue Squad is to provide BLS services we require all members that are certified EMT’s to ride the ambulance and serve time on duty. However, with the proper training and certifications you will be allowed to ride on the Rescue when you are not serving on a schedule duty crew.

No – Currently we do not allow members to live at the station and our Bunkrooms are reserved for those on duty.

The Rescue Squad remains one of the strongest EMS stations in the County in terms of staffing. We are able to provide multiple ambulances when needed and we are also the only EMS organization left in Burlington County that operates a Heavy Rescue Truck. Our unique location within the county means we respond to a large variety of calls some of which you do not see in some of the more populated areas. We operate multiple specialized pieces of apparatus including our 4×4 Off Road Ambulance, Emergency Services Rehab Truck, County MCI trailer, Rescue Boat, and our Heavy Rescue Truck. The rescue squad is part of the Burlington County Rescue Taskforce, Burlington County Technical Rescue Taskforce (USAR), and we are the only organization in the county to be able to provide Large Animal Rescue Services.
